The Bar

Ondergronds is a Dutch themed bar/lounge  in the heart of Melbourne, established in January of 2007.  Like many of Melbourne’s unique bars we are located underground which is how Ondergronds got its name – Ondergronds meaning Undergrounds in Dutch!

The original design was sleek and modern, but the owner felt it was missing something, perhaps the true essence of Amsterdam.  As a result, a visit to Amsterdam in 2008 was in order to bring back the concept of what makes Amsterdam truly famous, the Red Light District. The Red Light District is famous for its canals, it’s unique ‘coffee shops’ where locals and tourists alike enjoy smoking legalized marijuana and of course the ladies of the Red Light District.
